Papers of Ella Wheeler Wilcox, 1884-1919.

The collection contains manuscripts of ten poems and essays, and four quotations. Correspondence is chiefly professional. Letters to Edward Bok concern editorial matters, a misunderstanding re copyright, and a forged letter designed to stir up enmity between the two. Letters to James Burton Pond concern her promotion of harpist Mabel Monroe. Other letters concern submissions, serial rights, reprints and the promotion of new talent. Several letters describe life in France in 1918, her speaking engagements for the troops and her admiration for Leon Dennis. Her interest in psychics and in the poetry of Richard Le Gallienne are also mentioned. In addition there are social notes, letters to her dressmaker, letters to autograph hunters and notes of thanks and sympathy. The collection also contains photographs of Wilcox; a signed petition, 1899, for perpetual copyright; reviews; press release; published interview; and obituaries.

Richard Le Gallienne, British journalist and author, was a prolific writer during the late 19th and early 20th century. His early mentor was Oliver Wendell Holmes. Le Gallienne wrote My ladies' sonnets (1887), and the romantic novel, The quest of the golden girl (1896). He published The romantic nineties (1926), while working as a journalist in New York.
