Letter, 1851 Apr. 27, Hamburg, S.C., [to] James Evans, Fayetteville, N.C.

Letter to business associate discussing cotton trade, his health, flooding along the banks of the Savannah River, and plans to leave Hamburg (formerly in Edgefield District, S.C., now Aiken County, S.C.) Knight discusses challenge of arranging to ship 2,000 bales of cotton to Liverpool, England, "it required all of my best financeering to negociate for the latter quantity"; re his mother's health, and crop and weather conditions, including damage from flooding, "another freshet in the Savannah [River]... the water was in most of the Stores of this place," and reporting his intention to leave Hamburg, S.C., "which is one of the dullest places on earth - -and looks like a country Grave Yard with leaning tomb Stones filled with bad epitaphs."
