The collection contains two order books of the 5th Virginia regiment during the War of 1812 (24 March-16 July, 17 July-12 October 1813); land indenture to Philip Key of St. Mary's County, MD, 1813; four letters to Charles Fenton Mercer, 1816-1817, and reply, 1816, concerning injurious language against Mason by Mercer, redress requested, and protests of votes cast in Fairfax County congressional election; letter to Col. R. Butler, Adjutant General, Southern District of the Army, Nashville, TN, enclosing a letter from Col. Selden, 1817; and a printed document about votes, 1817, with a manuscript description of the Great Falls and Potomac Canal, 1818.
