Henry Agard Wallace (October 7, 1888 – November 18, 1965) was an American politician, journalist, and farmer who served as the 11th U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, the 33rd vice president of the United States, and the 10th U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Curtis MacDougall was born on February 11, 1903, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He started his career as a journalist there at the Fond du Lac Commonwealth-Reporter at the age of fifteen. He received a BA in English from Ripon College in Wisconsin in 1923. He went on to obtain a Master's from Northwestern University in 1926 and a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin in 1933.
