VandeBunte graduated from Calvin College in 1937 and from Western Theological Seminary in 1940. He was licensed and ordained a minister by the Reformed Church in America in 1940. VandeBunte was president of the Particular Synod of Michigan in 1975. He was a member of the Hope College Board of Trustees and the Board of Theological Education of the Reformed Church.
