Eenigenburg graduated from Rutgers University in 1937 (A.B.), from Western Theological Seminary in 1940 (B.D.), and from Columbia University in 1947 (Ph. D.). He was licensed and ordained as a minister by the Reformed Church in America in 1940 and held several pastorates until 1952 when he began teaching at Western theological Seminary.
