Constance Reed Haller papers, 1866-1927.

This collection consists of a variety of papers related to the pioneering families of the McKennys and Reeds of Thurston County Washington. The papers were donated by one of the descendents of the Reed family, Constance Reed Haller. The collection consists of correspondence among Thomas I. McKenny, Ida McKenny, Willie McKenny, Ida McKenny Reed to her daughter, Constance. There is correspondence between Constance Reed Haller and Vilhjalmur Stefansson dated 1913, 1915 and 1927. There are postcards, some miscellaneous photographs, one is a reproduction of a photograph of Washington King. There are some newspaper clippings about Mrs. Constance R. Haller and her friends, as well as a poster dated 1912 of a stage production that Constance participated in. There are miscellaneous manuscripts and published items in the collection. The collection includes a copy of the marriage certificate for Thomas Irving McKenny and his first wife, Cynthia Adelaide King. It includes the original Last Will and Testament of T.I. McKenny.

The McKenny family of Thurston County, WA has spelled their name in several different ways. Gen. T. I. McKenny has been referred to as Gen. T. J. McKenney in his obituary and other references. T. I. McKenny was born in Gallatin, Ill. in 1830. He fought in the Mexican and Civil Wars and was an attacheĢ to several generals. He was brevetted Brigadier General. Vilhjalmur Stefansson was born on November 3, 1879 in Arnes, Manitoba, Canada. He attended the University of North Dakota from 1897-1902. He was voted the best orator in 1900, and also worked for the school newspaper. In 1930 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, only the third such degree awarded.
