[Sgt. Edward Gralak letters home collection].

A collection of letters and photographs sent from primarily Edward P. Gralak to his parents, relatives, and other family friends in Calumet City, Illinois during World War II. Gralak served in the US Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Missouri, New Jersey and New Delhi, India between 1942 and early 1946. The letters describe daily Army life as well as descriptions of New Delhi during the Second World War.

Congress passed a resolution creating a national weather service on February 9, 1870, and it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. This new law directed the Secretary of War to take meterological observations and provide warnings of approaching storms. The Brevet Brigadier General Albert J.
