Wendell E. Albert reminiscences, 1991-1998.

Two typescript reminiscences of Wendell E. Albert of Braintree, Mass. from 1925-56, written at Bismarck, N.D. The first narrative, entitled, "A Dogged and Well-Tried Generation," was written in 1991, and significantly revised in 1993. Albert recalls his childhood and education in Braintree from 1925-43; his World War II service with the 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, training at Camp Hood, Tex., and Camp Claiborne, La. and combat in Belgium and Germany (including participation in the Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns) from 1944-45; the occupation of Germany during the second half of 1945; his service with the U.S. Air Force from 1948-52, particularly in the Korean War in 1951-52; and his education at the University of Mass. at Amherst from 1952-56. In addition to the typescript, the narrative contains copies of letters, photographs, maps, and documents. The second narrative, entitled, "A Summation of the Military Experiences of W.E. Albert 31367194," was written in 1998, and details his service with the 84th Infantry Division, 1943-1946, and his service in the U.S. Air Force, 1948-52. Albert provides photocopies and transcriptions of letters received from family members; photocopies of medals and memorabilia; and photocopies of army manuals, troop orders, and other papers from his service in the U.S. Army and Air Force, especially during World War II and the Korean War. The narrative also includes photographs of Albert, family members, and members of his troop.
