Peter Dorman, a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Gallatin County, Kentucky, wrote this letter home to his wife, Lucy Kemper Dorman, from Frankfort on February 22, 1854. The letter describes social activities associated with the legislative session and the celebration of George Washington's birthday, including a reception for and a speech by the visiting governor of Indiana, Joseph A. Wright. The letter concludes with a twenty-four-line poem expressing his wish to be home and "politicks give up."
