Long begins by discussing some of the issues that brought her into the Women's Movement, such as the Civil Rights Movement, the economic disparity between men and women, and a woman's right to reproductive choice. She discusses the leadership of the Women's Movement in Georgia, as well as her own experiences as a volunteer lobbyist attempting to change Georgia's laws regarding abortion, domestic abuse, and economic disparity between men and women. Long discusses the racial issues that afflicted the Women's Movement in Georgia and offers her own insight into the "end" of the Women's Movement during the Reagan era.

Mary Long was born in Guthrie, Kentucky in 1941. A long-time member of the Georgia Nurses Association, Long was particularly interested in women's reproductive rights, and appeared as one of the plaintiffs in the Georgia abortion case Doe v. Bolton. She was a member of the Women's Political Caucus and participated in efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Georgia.
