Case of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1921-1931 (inclusive), 1921-1925 (bulk).

Consists of medical records relating to Roosevelt's polio which were taken from the papers of Robert W. Lovett. Includes correpondence between Roosevelt and his doctors Lovett and Frank R. Ober, with some letters from Roosevelt describing his exercise and treatment at Warm Springs, Ga. Also contains copies of Lovett's replies to Eben H. Bonnet's letters about Roosevelt's illness, regarding inoculation for polio with blood serum, and other matters; Lovett's replies to George Draper concerning orthopedic devices; and letters to Lovett from Roosevelt's physiotherapist Kathleen Lake, reporting on his care, treatment, and condition. Some correspondence between Lovett and Eleanor Roosevelt, and copies of Lovett's letters to Sara Delano Roosevelt also exist in the papers. Other material includes Lovett's medical records, 1921-1925, with notes and results of his examinations of the extent of paralysis suffered by Roosevelt; and also description sheets and body charts of paralyzed muscles; and letters, 1931, from Linsly R. Williams to Ober about Roosevelt's condition.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt. Robert Williamson Lovett (1859-1924), AB, 1881, Harvard College; MD, 1885, Harvard Medical School; was Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Orthopedic Service at Boston Children's Hospital.
