Traverse City (Mich.) photographs album, 1880,1899.

Very fat photograph album, undated, late nineteenth century, circa 1880-1899. The v. has a leather cover embossed with gold decoration and three flowers, two red and one purple. The lock is missing. The first p. has an image of palm tree, waterfall, sailboat, and bird in tones of blue, peach, and gold and the word "Photographs." The spine cover is loose on one side. The v. includes 30 pp., mainly portraits of men (22), women (21), families (4), babies (4, and 1 asleep, or quite possibly dead, in a baby carriage), girls (2), and groups of men (2). There are three photographs of C. W. and P. E. Sparling, "the smallest students in the world" at Hillsdale College, Michigan. There is another group photograph of multiple students, and one of the residence of William F. Dennison in Grand Traverse, 1882, the only dated photograph in the collection. Most of the photographs are unidentified. A number of them are from Michigan towns, although a few are also from Wis. and N.Y.
