It is likely that this scheme was part of the Rockefeller Center plan. Rockefeller Center was one of the proposed sites for relocating the Metropolitan Opera House when preliminary schemes for the site were developed in the 1920's. Nelson Rockefeller continued to pursue this relocation until the Lincoln Center site was chosen.
