This is the "rough proof" of the "Elephant Paper" Dickens says he is sending Tennent in a letter dated Nov. 19, 1859 (MA 4979.9). The article reviews Tennent's book on Ceylon [Ceylon, an Account of the Island, Physical, Historical, and Topographical], with a focus on Tennent's descriptions of elephants.
