Autograph letter signed : Denmark Hill, to Effie, [1848 Jan.] 9.

Published pp. 83-84, with editorial changes and two omissions: (1) he minds "a good deal" about his father's letter. Was it copied? If she saw it, she must have altogether stopped loving him. All that her parents did was right. They must have wanted her to marry W.[illiam?] T[asker?] "when they made you be as you used to be with him"; (2) sheet enclosed (1 p., 1 l.), with pencil scrawl of architectural details and comment that it has been recently discovered that the Parthenon even to its steps, is "all curves."
