Autograph letter signed : Denmark Hill, to Effie, [1847] Sunday evening [December 19].

Published pp. 73-78, with editorial changes and one omission: it is right that she told him about William [Tasker?] because having secrets from each other prevents the oneness of husband and wife. He is sure that what Effie did was as perfectly right as it was good and kind. Confidence, as Miss Edgeworth shows, should come because withholding confidence gives pain--especially to a child in relation to his parents.
