Autograph letters signed (4), dated : Paris, 29 January 1892, St. Petersburg, 15/27 November and 11/23 December 1892, and Klin, 25 September/7 October 1893, to [William von Sachs in New York], 1892-1893.

Saying that he doubts whether he will return to America despite his wish to revisit a country where he was so well received, that he is very pleased to learn of the success of Adele Aus der Ohe, that rehearsals of Iolanta and Casse-noisette prevent his leaving St. Petersburg, that he has promised [Bernhard] Pollini that he would be in Hamburg for rehearsals of Iolanta, expressing regret that they did not meet at [Schloss] Itter--just as Mme [Sophie] Menter was about to invite the recipient Tchaikovsky was suddenly summoned to Prague for the staging of la Dame de Pique--, saying that when he knows the dates of Iolanta in Hamburg and Schwerin he will let the Sachs know, that his recent works at the Imperial Theatre [Iolanta and The Nutcracker] were successful, that he will go to Jurgenson and do as the recipient asks regarding [Tchaikovsky's] Fifth Symphony, that he goes abroad the next day but not to Hamburg and Schwerin [for performances of Iolanta] but to bury himself in some little corner of Italy, that he then hopes to conduct a concert in Brussels and not return to Russia before Lent, that if the music director Levi finds the translation of Iolanta unsatisfactory Tchaikovsky has no objection to his making a new one, asking what anyone could have against the libretto of la Dame de Pique, complaining that the correspondent's return addresses are illegible, and adding that he has written a new symphony [the Sixth], "dont je suis très fier," mentioning [Morris] Reno, etc.
