Mythological scene with water-god, sun-god, and other gods; seal of the scribe Adda [seal impression]. [modern impression of seal created between 2350 and 2150 B.C.]

The sun-god (Shamash), whose rays spring from his shoulder, holds aloft his emblem, the saw, as he rises between two mountains. Ea, identified by fish-filled sweetwaters streaming out of his shoulders, steps over a rising bull and holds a bird in his hand; Usmu, the Janus-headed attendant, stands behind. On the mountain, to the left, stands a winged goddess of war, perhaps Ishtar, shown full-faced, carrying quivers on her back and a date-cluster (?) in hand. A tree grows from the mountains, which are represented by scales and run continuously around the bottom. Another god, perhaps Ninurta, advances with bow in hand, followed by a roaring lion. Terminal, a two-line inscription, framed, above the lion: ad-da / dub-sar 'Adda, scribe'.
