A letter to his translator, a literary agent, about plans for future volumes of his novel Les Thibaults [after the publication of which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1937], and describing in detail his writing methods and his deep absorption with the novel. He writes, "Each of my emotions, each new idea that I have automatically finds itself a place in the fan opened up before me"; of the process of revision, he writes: "I complete the book in its entirety from one end to the other. First time, then a second, even up to five and six times. I sometimes have six or seven complete drafts of which each one is in a different state and improved over the preceding one ..."
