Belle da Costa Greene (December 13, 1883 – May 10, 1950) was the librarian to J. P. Morgan. After Morgan's death in 1913, Greene continued as librarian under his son, Jack Morgan. In 1924 the private collection was incorporated by the State of New York as a library for public uses, and the Board of Trustees appointed Greene first director of the Pierpont Morgan Library. Henry Durlacher founded the Durlacher Brothers art dealership with his brother George in London in 1843. The New York branch opened in the early 1920s, managed by R. Kirk Askew. He became the owner of Durlacher Brothers in 1937 and ran the business from New York until ca. 1969. George Durlacher, the oldest surviving original partner, retired in 1938.
