Responding to a request for biographical information, discussing the differences between Rienzi and Der fliegende Holländer, why he writes his own librettos, why certain subjects are appropriate for musical treatment, commenting on the production of Holländer in Berlin--he would have preferred one of Rienzi--, sending him the score of Tannhäuser, mentioning Laube, Weber, Meyerbeer, Schladebach, Marschner's Hans Heiling and Adolf von Nassau, etc.
