Saying he has not been able to be with her because he has had to stay in Venice with Piave, that he is unwilling to listen to the wishes of a certain "gallant cavalier" who does not want him to ride solo with her in a gondola, mentioning Carolina Minervi, a distinguished musical dilettante from Trieste whom he would like to introduce to her and her famous husband [i.e., Sigismond Thalberg], sending greetings to Thalberg, etc.
