Acknowledging the great honor to be asked to set to music La Corona del Merito, o sia il Torquato Tasso, explaining that he cannot begin immediately since he is occupied with setting Il ratto di Proserpina, a French poem given to him by the First Consul that will be performed at the Opéra and that will occupy him for about four months, asking for a postponement, promising to begin Torquato Tasso as soon as his present work is completed, etc.
