Autograph letter signed, dated : St. Petersburg Nov. 7/26 October 1847, to Hector Berlioz in Paris, 1847 Nov. 7.

Explaining how Berlioz's letter to Lvov about his opera Ondine came to be published in [La] gazette [musicale]: Lvov sent a copy of the letter to his mother, who showed it to Schlesinger in Berlin, who allowed it to be published "dans le but de me faire plaisir car il m'est bien devoué"; Lvov accepts the blame, since he should have told his mother that the letter was not for publication; Lvov then reacalls with pleasure the few moments that he and Berlioz spent together in St. Petersburg, expressing hope that the unfortunate publication of the letter will not lessen Berlioz's affection for Lvov, saying that he described to the Empress "combien Votre employ à Petersbourg serait utile à l'art et l'economie," that he must speak with the Grand Duke about establishing a school to train church choir directors and that he will recommend Berlioz, mentioning [Heinrich Maria] Romberg, etc.
