James Moore Wayne (ca.1790-1867), Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, was born in Savannah. After graduating from Princeton in 1808, he studied law in Savannah and was admitted to the bar in 1810. During the War of 1812 he was an officer in the Georgia Hussars, a local cavalry organization.
