Directing him to decipher and return two letters, one of them on the same sheet. On the reverse is a translation of a letter dated 11 January, 1705, from the administrators of the almshouses in Augsburg, asking for assistance from Queen Anne.

British statesman. Robert Harley was born in London, England. He became a lawyer, and a Whig MP in 1689. In 1701 he was elected Speaker, and in 1704 became secretary of state. Shortly after, he became sympathetic to the Tories, and from 1708 worked to undermine the power of the Whigs.
