Autograph letter signed : Paris, to Leonard Smithers, [1899 Apr.].

Thanking him for returning documents and discussing encumberances on his mother's estate. Discussing his dissapointment at not receiving £2 as expected from Smithers that day, and noting that Dowson will forward £4 worth of work that week. Expressing anxiety to return to London, asking for an advance, or, if Smithers does not think Dowson's work entitles him to any further advance, a loan as from a friend. Noting that any funds Dowson receives from Nairne (of Baker & Nairne) Dowson will forward to Smithers at once. Again asking explicitely for £2 and and advance or personal loan sufficent to return Dowson to London, for which he "shall be awfully grateful." Closing with an apology for offending Smithers the last time he was in Paris.
