George Houser: born Cleveland, OH; education: exchange student at Lingnan University in China 1935-36; anti-war activism: Gandhian non-violent tactics, draft opposition and imprisonment, loss of civil rights as felony offender; Civil Rights Movement: Freedom Ride 1947, member of Fellowship of Reconciliation and the War Resisters League, protests against segregation and discrimination; member of American Committee on Africa, support of African liberation struggle.
