John Hageman diary, 1856.

Diary of John Hageman while on a journey from Ohio through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri as a solicitor of subscriptions for religious periodicals, chiefly the Methodist CRUSADER. Entries describe the countryside, church meetings, Sunday schools, and religious services in prison and insane asylums. He also remarks on his leadership at temperance meetings, sermons and speeches of others, and he comments on the religious activities and attitudes of individuals he met. Diary includes a list of names and addresses of subscribers.

From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It is primarily a hymn-singing choir, and the devoted members feel that the main purpose in their coming together is to spread the gospel message of the Church by means of song.
