Abbie Cromer was born in 1886 in Greenfield, Indiana of Quaker parentage. Mrs. Cromer taught German and French in high schools in Indiana and worked for ten months in France after World War I under the French Service Commission. A graduate of Earlham College with an MA from Pennsylvania State University, she lived in State College from 1920 to 1963. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer."
