The collection includes items and files received from many offices at SIO. The collection is divided into two series. The S.I.O. Series includes material about S.I.O., the Non-S.I.O. Series includes material that is about organizations other than SIO, for instance, the U.S. Navy. The collection includes correspondence, memoranda, notes, reports, proposals, accounting information and other material. The collection includes information on Scripps financial affairs under the subject heading "Budget" information on Scripps sponsored research under the heading "Research Projects." and "Contracts," information on Scripps expeditions under "Expeditions" and research vessels under "Ships." The bulk of the material in this accession documents the directorships of Roger Revelle and William Nierenberg.
