Records 1834-1989.

The records document the duties and functions of the Office of the Secretary beginning with the creation of the Office in 1899. Earlier records retained by the Secretary date from 1834. Reflected in the records is the growth and development of the Secretary's Office from an ancillary duty and responsibility of the Office of Treasurer, to an administrative office overseeing the functions of the General Faculty, Board of Trustees, alumni affairs, as well as several areas of student life. The records center on the tenures of George M. Jones (1870-1948), Secretary from 1899 to 1938, and his successor, Donald M. Love (1894-1974), Secretary from 1938 to 1962.
