Primarily originals and authenticated copies of Spanish and Portuguese royal decrees, orders of the Guatemalan Audiencia issued in the name of the king, correspondence transmitting decrees, and related documents, concerning the ecclesiastical and civil government of the Indies, particularly in Guatemala, with special reference to treatment of Indians, conduct of religious orders, and expulsion of the Jesuits. The title page, in the handwriting of Brasseur de Bourbourg, erroneously limits the period covered to 1632-1769.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
