WBRZ-TV is a commercial television station serving Baton Rouge, La., and its vicinity. The station first signed on the air in 1955 as an affiliate of the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). At that time all programs were transmitted in black and white, and most were performed live. In 1966 the station was the first in Baton Rouge to broadcast in color. Born in 1944 on the west bank of New Orleans, Pat Cheramie became the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from LSU in 1966 with a degree in journalism and went on to work at WBRZ in Baton Rouge, where she remained for over twenty-five years and served as station manager.
