Ralph Sims oral history interview, 1997.

Sims describes his family background and his hometown, Donaldsonville, his work at WJBO radio before and after the war and his association with station owner Charles Manship, Sr., and his training and experiences as a member of a B-17 flight crew during World War II, including his participation in D-Day. He offers details about debriefings after his missions and the "official" news in the STARS AND STRIPES. He also relates his career after the war and radio and his involvement in the Rotary Club.

Ralph Sims was born in Donaldsonville, La. in 1916. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a tailgunner in a B-17 "Flying Fortress." Sims's wife, Eliza, worked as a secretary at Ethyl Corporation in Baton Rouge during the war. Returning home after his first tour, he continued to work at WJBO radio in Baton Rouge. Leaving radio, he worked for Crawford Corporation and Fidelity National Bank. He retired from the bank in 1982 and has remained active Louisiana Rotary Club. ...
