Anonymous Baton Rouge Civil War letter, 1862 Sept. 9.

Letter to Ebenezer Parsons of Lymfield Center, Mass., from his cousin, who participated in the Battle of Baton Rouge. The author describes the battle, encourages Parsons to enlist, and gives his opinion on African-Americans, their role in why the war is being fought, the practice of paying bounties to enlist men in the army, and its reflection on the patriotism of the United States.
