In 1879 the Kappa Psi Fraternity was founded for medical and pharmacy students. A chapter was established at the University of North Carolina in 1915. In 1925 Kappa Psi officially split into the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and the Theta Kappa Psi Medical Fraternity. The two orgainizations then issued new charters to the chapters.
