John Worth McAlister papers, 1881-1973 [manuscript].

Materials relating to John Worth McAlister or to other members of the McAlister family or the family of McAlister's wife, Margaret Hines McAlister. Included is correspondence, 1889-1928, mostly written by John Worth McAlister while he was a student at various schools. These letters are chiefly to his parents and tell of McAlister's activities. There are also a few letters, 1904-1908, that McAlister wrote to his parents or to his wife as he traveled on business, and some, 1919-1928, that relate to the academic career of John Worth McAlister, Jr. Also included are clippings, 1904-1971, describing the activities of John Worth McAlister and members of the McAlister and Hines families, and other papers, 1890-1958, consisting chiefly of school reports. There are also a few photographs, 1904-1961, of McAlister, his parents, and other relatives, including a 1904 snapshot of McAlister and his new bride waving from a train as they departed for their honeymoon trip.

The Bingham Military School was established in 1793 as the Bingham School in Orange County, N.C., by the Reverend William Bingham (1754-1825).
