Elizabeth E. Farrell Papers 1895-1932.

Elizabeth E. Farrell (d.1932) was a pioneer in the field of special education. A graduate of the Oswego, New York, State Normal and Training School in 1895, and a lecturer in psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, from 1915 until her death in 1935, Farrell attained an international reputation for her endeavors in the field of special education, contributing both data and techniques to the formulation of new and ever-improved methods of teaching public school children identified as having special learning needs and serving as auditor of the journal "Ungraded."

Farrell Papers include correspondence (1901-1903); classnotes, course outlines, and related papers from Teachers College, Columbia University (1905-1921); and various publications relating to special education, most notably her article, "Special Classes in New York City Schools," written in her capacity as Inspector of Ungraded Schools of the New York City Public Schools.
