Hoag collection, 1900-1972.

This collection relates to General Hoag's military career from 1917 to his retirement in 1953. The largest segment of materials deals with General Hoag's assignment as Chief of the United States Air Force Group for the American "Mission for Aid" to Turkey in 1947. That mission was to provide aid to Turkey and Greece until those two countries could be self-sufficient both economically and militarily. Items included in the collection are special orders, command orders, maps and overlays, diary accounts, pictures and clippings.

Earl Seeley Hoag began his military career in 1917 when he enlisted as a sergeant in the Signal Reserve Corps. He attended flight school and in 1920 was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Air Service of the Regular Army.
