Interview of CWO Carter Owens, USCG, containing detailed descriptions of his activities relating to Hurricane Katrina rescue operations including: evacuation to LORAN station, Grangeville, La., before Katrina hit New Orleans; Owens and his crew return to New Orleans (30 Aug.), being the first Coast Guard small boats to enter the water near the interstate highways I-10 and I-610 split; recovery of approximately 50 people, including animals, in the first few hours; transporting evacuees to the I-10 split or to a triage site with medical personnel and ambulances; and Owens and his crew rescuing several hundred people over a three-day period ending late on Thursday (1 Sept.).
