Cruise of the Zaca, 1952 [motion picture].

The accession consists of 1 color master film, 1 projection copy, 3 reels labeled "discards", 1 color workprint and 1 black and white workprint. This is an entertainment film of special historical interest to SIO and Errol Flynn fans. A highly professional account of a cruise taken in mid 1946 by Carl Hubbs and others aboard Flynn's 118 foot yacht, the Zaca. Dr. Hubbs and Dr. T. Thomson Flynn, professor of Biology at Queen's University, Belfast, conducted field research while cruising southward through the waters off the Mexican coast. Included in the film are a few nostalgic shots of the SIO campus, whales and elephant seals. The projection copy is 16mm, color, 20 minutes in length and includes sound. It was produced by Warner Bros. Inc.

American ichthyologist and naturalist born Williams, Arizona October 18, 1894. Received A.B. (1916) and A.M. (1917) degrees from Stanford and Ph. D. (1927) University of Michigan. After three years at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Hubbs served as Curator of Fishes at Michigan's Museum of Zoology (1920-1944) and Professor of Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD (1944-1969).
