The collection, 1937-1984, and undated, is almost entirely composed of Lagler's publications, including abstracts of his papers, addresses/presentations, articles, and reports, bibliographies, a forward and preface for books, book reviews, research project reports, and copy of Fishes of the Great Lakes Region, 1947, missing the cover. Also included is a folder of his Vitae/Biographical Materials.

Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. With support from the Michigan Commission on Art in Public Places, 1,076 items were inventoried during 1988-1990. Karl Frank Lagler (1912-1985) attended public schools in Rochester (N. Y.) and then earned his A. B. from the University of Rochester, his M. S. in Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries in 1936 from Cornell University, and his Ph. D. in Zoology and Fisheries in 1940 from the University of Michigan (UM). After teaching botany for a year at the University fo Rochester, Lagler was hired at the UM, where he spent the rest of his career. American ichthyologist and naturalist born Williams, Arizona October 18, 1894. Received A.B. (1916) and A.M. (1917) degrees from Stanford and Ph. D. (1927) University of Michigan. After three years at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Hubbs served as Curator of Fishes at Michigan's Museum of Zoology (1920-1944) and Professor of Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD (1944-1969).
