North Dakota Prisoner of War Reports, 1982.

The North Dakota Prisoner of War Reports consist of lengthy questionnaires completed by North Dakota prisoners of war from World War II and the Korean War. The questionnaires highlight the experiences of serviceman held in various prisoner of war camps in Germany, Japan and Korea. In addition to the questionnaires, many photocopied photographs, letters, telegrams and other documents are included. The North Dakota Prisoner of War Reports was a project officially supported by the North Dakota Ex-Prisoner of War Organization and the Chester Fritz Library, University of North Dakota. Elmer Lian, Grand Forks, North Dakota, designedand administered the project in 1982 in order to preserve the history of North Dakota's prisoners of war. Lian himself was a prisoner of war in Germany in 1944 and 1945. Lian also separated the questionnaires into four separate volumes.

Edward Lian, born Jan. 20, 1885 near Ringerike, Norway, immigrated to America in 1906. He settled in Fairdale (ND), where he married Martha Haug in 1917. Edward died in December 1976 in Grand Forks (ND). Elmer T. Lian, Edward and Martha Haug's oldest son, was born on April 17, 1918 in Fairdale.
