The Everett E. Sterner papers include Mr. Sterner's photographs, notes, and data relating to cooperative dormitories in Iowa City during the Great Depression. He provided a brief explanation for the establishment of the cooperative dormitories by Robert E. Rienow, Dean of Men, and a list of the University of Iowa men's and women's coop dorms of this period.

Himie Voxman is among UI's most honored faculty and administrators. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the UI with high distinction in 1933, and received a master's degree in 1934 in the psychology of music, studying with pioneering researcher Carl Seashore. Everett Ezra Sterner was born May 28, 1914, in Batavia, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts from September 1934 until June 1940. From 1936 until 1940 he served as the first proctor of The Gables cooperative dormitory. He married Dolores Johnson, of Logan, Iowa, on May 26, 1940.
