The technique of playwriting [manuscript]/ by John Howard Lawson, 1934-1936.

The collection contains a typed draft of "The technique of playwriting" which is completely different from the printed version. Contains Lawson's cuts and corrections, and extensive marginal notations. The collection also contains the final revision completed between November 1935 and January 1936. Parts II, III, and IV are original script, with notes, elisions, cuts, corrections and extensive material written in pencil. Part I is a carbon copy of a lost original. The index is also a portion of the final revision

John Howard Lawson (1894-1977) was a writer, and head of the Hollywood division of the American Communist Party. Lawson was born in New York City, New York in 1894. After studying at Williams College, he became a successful playwright. In 1928, Lawson moved to Hollywood where he wrote scripts for films such as The Ship for Shanghai, Bachelor Apartment, and Goodbye Love.
