The Reconstruction miscellaneous collection is an artificially-created collection containing material concerning the Reconstruction period in United States history from 1865-1873. The collection includes correspondence and several types of official documents, such as oaths of allegiance, discharge papers, and orders from the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Land. Much of the correspondence concerns daily life during Reconstruction, and addresses property issues and other business concerns.

The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, usually referred to as simply the Freedmen's Bureau, was a U.S. federal government agency that aided distressed freedmen (freed slaves) in 1865–1869, during the Reconstruction era of the United States.
