Papers of the Greene Family, 1790-1936.

The Greene family papers are made up entirely of notecard transcriptions of diaries, letters, and cards. George Greene's diaries provide information on early days in Johnson, Jones, and Linn counties, especially in the city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His son Robert, detailed what was playing at Greene's Opera House in his diary. Calvin Graves Greene described his many trips, including one to San Francisco in 1915.

George Greene was a lawyer and businessman in pioneer Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He helped found Coe College, he built Greene's Opera House, and was president of the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Minnesota Railroad. George Green married Francis R.
