Minutes, newsletters, correspondence, reports, contracts, financial records, membership rosters, business agents' weekly reports, grievance and arbitration proceedings, organizing files, scrapbooks, newspapers and periodicals relating to the day-to-day activities of a major Cleveland union and its relationship to the International headquarters, subordinate locals and the Cleveland industrial community, particularly during and after World War II. Included is material on the early history of the IAM in Cleveland, organizing activities and the representational disputes with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, and the Fawick Airflex strike of 1949. In addition, the collection contains material relating to Matthew DeMore, the national IAM, the Machinists Non-Partisan Political League, the Ohio State Council of Machinists, various Cleveland IAM locals, women in the union, the cooperative programs sponsored for IAM members, and the issue of communism in trade-unions.
